Thursday Schedule Detail

Session Name: Response~~Defense Support of Civil Authorities
Session Description:

The Department of Defense plays a significant role in support of the National Response System and specifically in response to hurricanes. The major hurricanes that hit the U.S. this year required large-scale responses, including the employment of significant DoD capabilities. Presenters will focus on key aspects of DoD support of civil authorities that pertain to their Component and area of expertise, such as immediate response; mutual aid agreements (importance, who to contact); preparedness (planning, training, exercising, equipping, and assessing); DoD technology and equipment transfer; the role of DoD installations (emergency management, mutual aid, interface with communities); and National Guard support. The discussion will also include challenges, gaps and shortfalls, and ways to improve how DoD interfaces with civil authorities and how support is provided.
