Session Name: Insurance~~Risk Management/Crisis Management: How Insurers Communicate Before During and After the Storm
Preparing for a hurricane starts long before a storm appears, especially for insurance companies. They manage their risks carefully because insurers must have the money on hand before a hurricane strikes to pay anticipated claims. They continually strive to educate home owners and business owners about mitigation, preparedness and resilience, yet many people are ambivalent about the importance of being proactive. And, then a major storm hits and grabs the public’s attention to open the door for making progress toward building a disaster-resilient population. This session will look at how people view risk and what motivates them to prepare for disaster. It will highlight key messages and techniques to get the attention of vulnerable populations, combat complacency and help people recover.
