Tuesday Schedule Detail

Session Name: Meteorology/Public Education/Media~~The NHC Media Pool: An Underutilized Resource for Local Markets?
Session Description:

This workshop will be an interactive town hall in which media, emergency management, and National Hurricane Center officials discuss the effective use of the media to communicate hurricane threats, potential impacts, and preparedness messages to the public. Part of this effort is the activation of the NHC media pool during hurricane threats to the United States. During the 2017 hurricane season, the media pool was utilized by national and local television stations to help with consistent messaging during the events. However, the NHC media pool seems to be underutilized in some local markets. This workshop will discuss the effective use of the media pool and ways to increase awareness and use of this resource.
