Tuesday Schedule Detail

Session Name: Accessibility & Functional Needs~~Bridging the Gap: New and Innovative Approaches to Whole Community Emergency Management
Session Description:

Superstorm Sandy left many people with mobility limitations stranded on the upper levels of New York City high-rise buildings when either they decided not to evacuate when told to or could not find the support to leave in time. The storm brought devastation to swaths of the NE but it was people in public housing whose power was the last to be reconnected and services reestablished. During this interactive presentation, participants will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the concepts of hurricane preparedness, response and recovery focused on a community-based data-driven approach to increase disaster resiliency to under-served populations including people with disabilities and other individuals with access and functional needs.

Day of Week: Tuesday
