Tuesday Schedule Detail

Session Name: Evacuation Planning~~Tropical Storm Classification and Risk Based Evacuation Decisions
Session Description:

The objective of this session is to introduce a new scale which classifies tropical storms based on the comprehensive hazard to human life at a given location. The scale utilizes the current weather forecast products issued by the National Weather Service and allows for classification of a storm based on conversion of inputs from NWS advisories to outputs in the form of recommended actions, including public evacuation decision. The new model changes the way storms are classified by focusing protective action decision on local hazards to human life by prioritizing the four most casualty producing hazards associated with tropical storms: storm surge, flooding, wind and tornadoes.
